Introduction

The Fourth Respiratory Care Course in Intensive Care Unit is a Continuous Professional Development activity designed to address identified knowledge, skills, and performance gaps in neonatal and pediatric intensive care respiratory management. The activity combines evidence-based lectures, case presentation, workshops, and hands-on training covering bronchopulmonary dysplasia, pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome, airway management, non-invasive ventilation, high-flow nasal cannula therapy, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation with volume guarantee, less invasive surfactant administration, respiratory outcomes after patent ductus arteriosus closure, persistent pulmonary hypertension, and tracheostomy management.

Description

  • Location: Maternity and Children Hospital - Main Auditorium (Click Here)

  • Date & Time:-
  • Day | Date: Thursday - | 3 September 2026
  • Time: (From 07:30 AM to 04:15 PM)

(      1  DAY       )

  • Goals & Objectives:-
  • Identify current evidence and timing considerations for postnatal corticosteroids used to prevent or treat bronchopulmonary dysplasia in neonates.

  • Create a multidisciplinary respiratory care plan that integrates escalation criteria, patient safety considerations, documentation, and communication points for intensive care practice.

  • Analyze a premature neonate with respiratory distress syndrome complicated by persistent pulmonary hypertension and formulate an evidence-based respiratory management plan.
  • Explain the respiratory outcomes associated with definitive patent ductus arteriosus closure and describe their implications for respiratory care planning.

  • Demonstrate essential tracheostomy care and emergency response steps for neonatal and pediatric patients during hands-on training.
  • Apply pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome guidance to select appropriate respiratory support strategies for critically ill children.

  • Differentiate the indications, benefits, risks, and monitoring requirements of non-invasive ventilation, high-flow nasal cannula therapy, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation with volume guarantee, and conventional respiratory support.
  • Demonstrate the key preparation, coordination, monitoring, and safety steps for less invasive surfactant administration during hands-on training.

  • Learning outcomes:-
  • Enable healthcare practitioners involved in neonatal and pediatric intensive care to apply updated evidence-based respiratory care principles and demonstrate selected practical skills needed for safe respiratory management of critically ill children. The activity supports translation of current evidence into daily practice.
