Introduction

This course offers a comprehensive, hands-on sessions into the two most critical pillars of laboratory research: cell culture and molecular genetic analysis. Designed to bridge the gap between theoretical biology and experimental performance, the curriculum moves systematically from the foundations of aseptic technique and cell line maintenance to qPCR. Participants will develop the skills necessary for cultivating life in vitro while mastering the mathematical and analytical rigor required to extract and quantify nucleic acids with precision. By the end of this program, you will have transitioned from a fundamental understanding of cellular behaviour to a high degree of technical autonomy, equipped with the integrated skill set demanded by diagnostic, pharmaceutical, and academic research institutions.

About Instructors
Dr. Abdurahman A. Niazy

-Associate Professor, PhD

Ms.Rhodanne Lambarte

-Anne is a licensed chemist and Laboratory Manager for the MCB Laboratory. Following graduation, her research focus shifted from small molecule organic synthesis to molecular mechanisms in cell biology while working at Dr. Abdurahman Niazy’s Laboratory. Since 2016, she oversees projects from multidisciplinary research areas at the laboratory and specialized experiments such as cell-based assays in drug response & development, qPCR and ELISA while working closely with research collaborators and postgraduate students. Her current research interests are in molecular nanomedicine & nanotoxicology and the use of nano biomolecules in stem-cell based studies.

Ms. Najla bin Shiwsh

-Najla received her BS degree from King Saud University where she started to develop her research interest in cell biology and stem cells. After 2 years of training with the Stem Cell Unit of the KSU Medical College, she is responsible for the Cell Culture facility of the MCB Laboratory and performs experiments involving primary cultures and cell lines, biochemical cellular assays, cell imaging, RNA extraction, qPCR, SDS-PAGE and ELISA.

Ms. Mary Grace B. Vigilla

-Mary Grace earned her Bachelor degree in Dentistry at one of the top premier dental universities in the Philippines. As a researcher at the Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory with 10 years of experience, she has expertise on various techniques such as Western Blotting, PCR, nucleic acid & protein isolation, Real-Time PCR, cell culture assays and histochemistry. She is also one of the coordinators in preparing and facilitating courses, events and workshops designed for post-graduate students, staff and healthcare practitioners.

Mr. Terrence Sumague

-A resourceful and highly accomplished researcher with over five years of experience in research informatics working at the multidisciplinary fields of cellular and molecular biology research. He possess a good background in analyzing and visualizing research findings using scientific tools and computational resources for research publication

Ms. Layali M. Almutairi

-Researcher with a master’s degree in Cell Biology, Genetics, and Histology. Experienced in molecular and microbiological laboratory research. Skilled in experimental design and the analysis of cellular and genetic mechanisms. Passionate about advancing biomedical research and contributing to scientific discovery.
